Company History
Nick Lloyd started his metal career at a well-known local company Mentay Steel Fab constructions at the age of 15. After completing his 4-year structural steel apprenticeship, he moved North working in various mines. This was Nicks introduction to heavy fabrication – big bucket repairs and many other heavy machinery repairs, then led him North to Gladstone QLD working in a large factory making heavy walled tanks that due to their size had to be transported by barge.
After returning home in 1997 Nick started working with stainless steel and some aluminum but wanted to be self-employed, so with not much to lose he started Lloyds Metal Fabrication in a very small shed at his home. Within a short period, Nick expanded the business, moving into a rental shed in Caravan Street, then in 2003 built the shed that Lloyds operates from today in the Walsh Estate. In 2017 due to increased demand, LMF acquired a dedicated factory for all our Stainless steel manufacture to prevent contamination of our products and ensure we could maintain best practices in food grade production.
In 2001 Patrick Kirby joined L.M.F. Paddy Kirby started his boiler making apprenticeship at the Victorian Railways in 1982 aged 16. Upon completion Paddy spent a short time in Melbourne returning to Ballarat & worked for Agware & Millar Bros before joining L.M.F in 2001. Paddy shared his time between the office & factory floor then in 2002 Paddy moved into a full-time management role becoming responsible for planning, purchasing & project management. In 2008 Paddy became a director of Lloyds Metal Fabrication and in 2023 will celebrate 40 years of experience in all aspects of the metal trade.
